It happened in Italy, in winter. The photograph I did not take of two foals struggling in a mire. I couldn’t press the shutter. Instead, I took them home.

This book is an account of what happened when two unidentified racehorses ended up in my field. When the bond that grew between us felt stronger than the law. When the photo graphs – the ones that were taken – held a truth of their own.

Shimmering with art and imagery, The Hungry Foals is a journey into the heart of Italy, and a gentle unveiling of the profound relationship between horse and human.
