Not long ago, when we first arrived in Spain, I found myself photographing the chalk drawings Sam was making on a steel table. At the same time I felt compelled to photograph the hoof paths the horses made across our new land. These temporary marks appeared and vanished around me as we all got our bearings, and they made me feel at home. This book explores the unspoken language of settling, instinctive and our own.
