The day had come to open the drawer and face what lay inside. For twenty-two years I thought about Cassata: the book that never got made.

A cinematic-diary surfaces from summer 2001 when motherhood was present, but elusive. Photographs pinned to pages: rooms of a Florentine palazzo, a river, a reptile … love. An ice-cream dessert melting. Words sparse, yet true. Wrapped within them a story that only my body knew.
